Harlequin 5-Star Reads Event: Recap + Giveaway(s)

On Tuesday, I had the unbelievable fortune of attending an amazing event, hosted by Harlequin. There were bloggers, editors, agents, publicists – and the special guests, Julie Kagawa and Jennifer L. Armentrout! I have to be honest, I was a little starstruck! So I don’t have as many pictures as I would have liked to share with you guys, and I don’t even have full details on some of what went down – Ever get so nervous, you blank things out? Yeah, that happened. I promise, I’ll do better next time! But it was truly an amazing night! I got to meet some bloggers, Harlequin staff and, of course, Julie and Jennifer!

JK Julie announced her new series, which is about dragons! More on that can be found here.

Me and JKI got to meet Julie and fangirl a little bit! Here, we’re holding some of the amazing dragons she designs and sells on Etsy! And you can see some of the New York City skyline! We were 46 floors up, and it was gorgeous! (The red is a reflection of the lights in the room).

Me and JLAI also got to meet Jennifer L. Armentrout! She was signing copies of White Hot Kiss, her new book, which will be out March 2014! It’s about gargoyles and demons, and apparently Roth is the Original Daemon Black!

Books! At the end of the night, we got these amazing Harlequin tote bags filled with books! And some swag and cookies :) I don’t have a picture of the tote bag or swag, but I’ll share it in my Stacking the Shelves tomorrow!

All in all, it was a really amazing night. I definitely had some nervous jitters and I’m still sitting here hoping I made a great first impression with everyone Bbecause I was so nervous. But it was amazing and I’ll cherish that night for a long, long time.

So now, of course, I have goodies to give away! And here they are:

  1. I would have to say.. The Immortal Rules. She did such a fantastic job with it. The vampires in that book are a perfect combination of dark and dangerous, along with mysterious and slightly misunderstood (depending on the vampire). It was dark and creepy but such an addicting read. So glad you got to go and had such a good time!! <3

  2. Sadly, I have not read any of Julie’s books yet, but my friend read Iron King a few years back and recommended it!

Sadly, I also don’t know almost anything about street racing, so I have no idea! How about a fast car, yeah? :P

  3. I don’t know much about cars but I’d probably choose a Camaro because I always chose them when I play Forza. lol

I haven’t read anything by Julie yet but I really want to!

  4. Lol, like almost everyone here, I know nothin about cars. I guess I would pick one of those cars from “Fast ad Furious” one of those fast cars…

  5. My favorite book by Julie Kagawa was The Iron Knight mostly because I really loved Ash and the ending was awesome.

I now almost nothing about about cars sadly.

  6. I haven’t read any Julie Kagawa books before, but I’m very excited to! And if I’m racing, I just want te fastest car around!

  7. I am really jealous you went to another book signing!!!

I haven’t read any of Julie Kagawa books, but they are on my TBR list.

My husband is a mechanic so I should know a car – but I don’t lol. So based on The Fast & Furious movies I’ll say a Mazda RX-7 (which was my dream car in high school, but I got stuck with the old camry lol)

  8. I asked my hubs and he said he would drive a Ferrari so that is my final answer lol!

I really liked the The Iron Fey series. They were awesome even I have not continued with the spin-off series. I also need to read The Immortal Rulles series too! That looks hardcore! Glad you had a great time Mer!

  9. That Harlequin event looks like so much fun! I can understand not being able to remember everything because of nerves.

If I street raced, I would definitely want to drive a VW Bug. I know it doesn’t sound intimidating, but just imagine all these colorful Bugs street racing around.

  10. If I could street race- I wouldn’t. I absolutely hate driving.

And, I haven’t read anything by Julie yet but I hope to soon!

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  11. I really like The Immortal Rules! I like the world she built and the character’s she created.

As for the car . . . um, I’m not sure. Whatever the characters in Crash into You would recommend?

  12. My favorite book By Julie Kagawa has to be the Iron King. It was the first book I had ever read by Julie, and it was the one book that let me see the magic in life. It’s fun to look back and see the old Meghan before everything happened. :)

  13. In my dreams? Possibly a Camaro… but considering I would undoubtedly crash it, I should probably just stick with my little Hyundai. OR I could drive BUMBLEBEE from Transformers! Then I wouldn’t have to worry about dying, at least… Yep, done deal:)

As for my favorite Julie Kagawa book… Hmm, that’s a tough one. Definitely one of The Iron Fey–possibly The Iron Queen? I love all of them, it’s so hard to choose! I’ve always been a Team Ash person, but I seriously LOVE Puck. Well, looks like I’ll just have to go reread them ALL now:)

  14. So great that you got to attend this event! Julie is one of my favorite authors. I got to meet her for all of 10 seconds at BEA this year, but that was the main thing I wanted to accomplish, so I was happy!

And aren’t her figurines wonderful? I’ve already purchased five of them, the most recent being a dragon dressed up as a ghost.

As for the giveaway questions, the only street car I would consider would be a very slooooow one. Speeding scares me! And my favorite Kagawa book is the first one of hers that I’ve read – The Immortal Rules.

  15. Well, can’t say I have a favorite yet since I haven’t started the series. I just bought the first book last weekend and can’t wait to jump into the series!

  16. Wow! The event sounds so awesome! Its always fun to meet other bloggers… and even more fun to meet authors! Glad to hear you had such a good time.

  17. I don’t know about street driving car necessarily but I have always wanted a CAMARO because of Tranformers and so far I have only read The Iron King but I have the rest of the series and I am working my way through it. THANKS FOR THE GIVEAWAY!!!

  18. I don’t like just one book, I like all of them. I just can’t pick one book because it’s like choosing between two of your favorite things, you know? I’m definitely planning on re-reading these. :)

  19. My favorite Julie Kagawa book is The Immortal Rules. It’s definitely one of the better YA vampire books out there [I haven’t gotten the chance to read the second book yet] and it is one I rec to people quite a lot.

  20. That’s a tough one, cause all her stuff is incredible. But I guess I’ll have to choose the iron fae series. Its one of my favorite series of al time.

  21. I love The Immortal Rules! :D

I would totally drive the fastest car so I could win the races! :D hahaha j/k. I really don’t know about racing cars, but maybe a Ferrari? I don’t know, does a Ferrari count? haha. :)
